Motion Is the Lotion, Get Moving This Fall

"Motion is the lotion."

I've been saying this to clients for over a decade now — as they work into their 1-minute moves, their 2-minute workouts, their 9-minute workouts, and as they push into lifting heavier weights. It's simple, but it's powerful. Our bodies were made to move, and when we don't, things start to ache, stiffen, or feel sluggish. Just a little bit of motion — a walk, a stretch, a few squats while the coffee brews — eases the creaks and brings us back to life. Think of it like oiling a hinge. The more you move it, the smoother it works.

But here's what I've found, after all these years and oh so many beautiful strong clients: motion doesn't stop at the joints. When you move — when you give your body a lift in resistance — it fires up those natural receptors that say, "feed me." And no matter who you are, whether you're building strength or not, food is the best medicine there is for balancing metabolic health.

This is exactly where most of us get overwhelmed.

"I eat well, but my weight is increasing." "I don't eat bad, but I don't understand this."

Or we just stop trying to figure it out at all.

"All the messaging is saying too many things." "I don't know who's right or wrong." "Is that an actual doctor? Or an AI doctor?" "Do doctors really know that much about nutrition, anyway?"

I hear it constantly. So how do we decipher it? How do we get clarity and actually move ahead?

Keep it simple. Trust your process. Start by prepping.

That's it. That's the whole strategy.

If you prepare for the workout — lay the clothes out, turn off the screen a little earlier the night before, hit the hay earlier with a book instead of a scroll — you are preparing your mindset for movement.

If you grocery shop the perimeter of the store on a weekend, prep some veggies, make a soup, portion out some proteins — you are preparing your mindset for nutrition.

You are preparing yourself, either way, to succeed. Prepping isn't a chore on top of your life. It is the process. Trust it.

Motion, in practice

Take it from my client, Sheila, who recently shared this with me:

"I feel healthier and happier! I always say this, but really mean it — your workouts are FABULOUS! Challenging and always so varied. I told my husband this morning that I hadn't truly known how to do a proper squat until working with you. The knees were carrying the move (bad idea). Once my core and glutes were strengthened (by your workouts) and with your training guidance, I now do them using glutes and core!! How exciting!! You're the best!! ❤️💪"

That's what motion done well does. It doesn't just wear you out — it teaches your body how to work correctly, so the lift in resistance you're giving it actually pays you back. Stronger glutes and core carrying the squat instead of your knees isn't just a technique fix. It's a whole-body signal: I am strong, I am capable, and I am asking for what I need.

Nutrition, in practice

And that "feed me" signal only does you good if you know how to answer it simply. My client Laura found her way in through one meal:

"Jenny encouraged me to start with attention to ONE meal a day, the first meal of the day. This was a game changer to my afternoon low energy after working on a screen all day. It is so true! Eating more quality foods earlier in the day provides lasting energy!"

One meal. Not a full overhaul, not a new set of rules to memorize, not another voice in the noise telling her what's right or wrong. Just quality food, earlier in the day — and lasting energy she could actually feel by 3pm.

That's the whole point. You don't need to solve nutrition. You need to prep for it, start simple, and trust that one good decision builds into the next.

Motion really is the lotion

Motion lubricates your joints, protects your bones with muscle fiber, gets your heart pumping, sharpens your mind — and it opens the door to knowing what your body actually needs to eat. Sheila's strength and Laura's energy didn't come from perfect plans. They came from prepping, starting simple, and trusting the process, one workout and one meal at a time.

So the next time you feel stuck, stiff, overwhelmed by the noise, or unsure where to start —

Keep it simple. Trust your process. Start by prepping.
