Why Summer Is the Best Time to Build Healthy Habits
During some of the quieter moments on this trip through Europe—walking the streets of Stockholm, navigating train stations, hiking mountain trails, and lingering around the dinner table with my family—I've caught myself thinking about conversations I've had with clients over the years.
More times than I can count, I've heard:
"After the Fourth of July."
"Once the kids go back to school."
"When life settles down."
If you've ever said those words, you're not alone. I've even caught myself thinking them over the years.
But this past year has taught me something different.
What if summer isn't the obstacle? What if it’s actually the opportunity?
When life is full, busy, and wonderfully unpredictable, that's when your healthy habits matter most—not because they have to be perfect, but because they help you fully participate in the life you're living.
Health Happens in Real Life
It's easy to believe you'll have more time in the fall. That next Monday will somehow be less busy than this one. That once life settles down, healthy choices will feel easier.
But has life ever really settled down?
Mine certainly hasn't.
There are always people to love, places to go, projects to finish, and plans that change overnight.
That's why I'll always encourage you to stop waiting for the perfect season and start building healthy habits that can travel with you wherever life takes you.
That's exactly what I've been practicing on this trip.
I've enjoyed incredible meals, walked everywhere, looked for protein when I could, stayed hydrated, laughed a lot, and slept well. None of it has been perfect. All of it has counted.
The Goal Was Never the Workout
This week I've climbed stairs without thinking twice, walked miles exploring beautiful cities, and kept up with my family all day long.
Not because I was “training for Europe.”
Because for years I've been quietly building a body that could say yes to moments like these.
That's why you'll always hear me talking about strength training, balance, mobility, and real whole-food nutrition. Not because I want to give you another thing to add to your to-do list, but because I want you to have the freedom to say yes.
Yes to the trip.
Yes to the hike.
Yes to playing at the beach with your grandchildren.
Yes to the long walk after dinner.
Yes to whatever adventure comes next.
Health isn't the destination.
It's the vehicle that helps us fully experience the life we've been given.
An Invitation
If you've been telling yourself you'll start after summer, let me lovingly challenge that idea.
What if now, this season, became the season you stopped starting over?
What if you learned how to build healthy habits that fit into vacations, family dinners, travel, and busy weeks instead of waiting for life to become less busy?
Because that's real life.
And that's exactly what we practice inside JRAPPFIT.
Summer Strength begins July 8, and it's designed for real life—not perfect weeks.
Whether you're traveling, entertaining family, spending weekends at the lake, or simply trying to find your rhythm again, I'll help you build strength, improve balance, and create healthy habits that fit your life instead of competing with it.
Because summer isn't the obstacle.
It might just be the best place to begin.
