Older Kids Are Cool

The other day, I was doing what I always do—working, grocery shopping, mentally planning dinner, wondering when I could squeeze in a quick walk or shower before someone inevitably asked, “What’s for dinner?”

Then I pulled into the driveway, car loaded down. And something different happened.

The boys came out—not as little boys, but as capable, kind young men. They unloaded the car. Put the groceries away. Asked how they could help. And then… they offered to make dinner.

“Mom, go rest. Go read. We got this. We know how to make peanutty noodles now.”

I had to walk away—teary-eyed, grateful, full of joy.

It really is the little things. The everyday ways they show character, care, and love.

As a coach, a mom, and a small business owner, I’m feeling all the feels this week. All three of my kids are home—with their partners, cousins, friends, and our extended family. It’s a rare and beautiful season.

This exact week will never happen again. You can repeat the meals, the traditions, the gatherings—but each year brings something new.

So breathe it in. Savor the simple moments. Find joy in the movement, the food, the intention, the discipline.

And enjoy a dish that’s been bringing our family together since 1999:

Peanutty Noodles — one of our all-time favorites, even better when all hands are in the kitchen. Back in the day, my mother-in-law gifted me Cooking Light magazine, and this recipe quickly became a go-to. It’s perfect for dinner and even better as leftovers.

Not in the mood to cook?

Try this fresh, crowd-pleasing appetizer: Grilled Peach Burrata — simple, seasonal, and stunning on a platter.

I love this recipe from howsweeteats.com.
