Why Strength Training After 50 Matters More Than Ever (A Real-Life Story at 52)
I thought by now I might be talking about something else.
And yet… here I am.
Still talking about bones.
Still teaching strength.
Still completely fired up about helping women move better, feel better, and live stronger.
You’d think after all these years, that would fade.
But the truth?
I believe it more now than I ever have.
Because now I’m living it.
At 52.
In midlife.
Not just as a coach.
But as a woman in midlife navigating energy shifts, recovery, hormones, and strength in real time.
This Didn’t Start Here
This didn’t start in midlife.
It started years ago, when I was a mom trying to understand my kids’ bodies.
About 16 years ago, my kids were deep into sports.
Practices, games, car rides, all of it.
And since I didn’t grow up athletic, I wanted to understand what their bodies were going through.
So I started learning.
How muscles grow.
How bones develop.
How injuries happen and how to prevent them.
I picked up textbooks. Studied. Asked questions.
And somewhere along the way… I fell in love with it.
I loved learning.
I loved applying it.
I loved helping.
That curiosity turned into coaching.
Early morning bootcamps.
Driveway workouts.
Small groups of women showing up, moving their bodies, and realizing they were stronger than they thought.
That turned into training.
Then a career.
And eventually, JRAPPFIT Health & Wellness—built around one simple mission:
Helping you build strength, support bone health, and feel confident in your body for the long haul.
Now I’m Living It
Now I’m in the same season of life as the people I coach.
Midlife.
Real life.
And I feel it.
The changes in energy.
Recovery.
Hormones.
Strength.
And at the same time…
I’m watching my 80-year-old mom—who started strength training with me almost six years ago—become stronger, more stable, and more confident than she was in her 70s.
She’s getting on a plane with me to travel to Sweden.
Walking through airports.
Navigating cobblestone streets.
Taking boat rides.
Fully experiencing it all.
At 80.
That’s not luck.
That’s not genetics.
That’s consistency.
That’s strength training.
Why I Care So Much About Bone Health
Because bone health isn’t about someday.
It’s about how you:
walk
travel
carry
stand
balance
live
Right now.
And this is what I see over and over again with the people I work with:
They’re not trying to be extreme.
They’re not trying to start over.
They just want to:
feel stronger
move without pain
keep doing the things they love
stay independent as they age
And they’re tired of guessing.
What I Know Now
Strength training is not optional anymore.
It’s how we:
support bone density
protect muscle
improve balance
stay active as we age
This is how we keep living fully.
Why I’m Still Talking About This
So if you’re wondering why I’m still here…
Still talking about strength.
Still encouraging you to lift weights.
Still reminding you that your body is capable of more—
It’s because this isn’t just fitness.
It’s your life.
And it’s never too late to start building strength that supports it.
