Before Bone Health Was My Work, It Was My Life

(And Today, It’s Also My Mom’s 80th Birthday!)

Before bone health was my work, it was my life.

I wasn’t born into a strong, stable frame.
I was born with deformed hips.
A structure that didn’t quite fit together the way it was meant to.

In the 1970s, the solution was to “fix” it.
Surgeries. Body casts.
Long stretches of stillness during years meant for movement.

The goal was alignment.
The outcome was something different.

I grew up with a two-inch limp.
And eventually, bone-on-bone pain.

But here’s what most people didn’t see:

I learned how to carry it well.
I built a full, vibrant, happy life.

On the outside, I looked capable.
On the inside, my body was always working harder than it should have to.

And for a long time, I didn’t talk about it.

Because when something becomes “just the way it is.”
You adapt quietly.
You normalize it.
You move around it.
You stop asking what more might be possible.

But bone has a way of speaking louder over time.

As I’ve stepped into midlife, something has shifted.
I’m more open. More willing to say:

This is where I’ve struggled.
This is what I’ve learned.
And this is what I know is possible.

Today, I help women build strength, improve mobility, and support their bone health through simple, consistent habits.

Because bone health isn’t just about aging.
It’s about how you move, how you eat, and how you care for your body every day.

And Today,

I’m Reminded

Why This Work Matters…

Today is my mom’s 80th birthday.

Almost six years ago, we started something simple.
Two strength workouts a week. Thirty minutes.

She lives in Tennessee. I live in Massachusetts.
We meet on Zoom and get to work.

When she started, she couldn’t squat well.
Getting on the floor was hard.
Balance was limited.

But she showed up. Week after week. Year after year.

And today, at 80, she is strong, capable, and confident.

She can:
• Get up and down off the floor
• Build strength with bands and weights
• Stand on one leg
• Walk with better posture

Her consistency changed everything.

Simple Habits That Support Strong Bones

Her results didn’t come from workouts alone.

They came from simple habits:
• Protein at breakfast
• Colorful, whole foods
• Treats earlier in the day
• Consistency over perfection

That’s what allows her to travel, garden, walk, and stay independent.

This Is What Strength Really Means

Strength isn’t about looking strong.

It’s about living strong.

Getting off the floor.
Carrying groceries.
Walking tall.
Living without fear.

This is what I want for every woman I work with.

It’s Never Too Late

Watching my mom at 80 reminds me:

It’s never too late to build strength, stability, and better bone health.

Happy 80th birthday, Mom. 💛
